Kamal Haasan's Elegy for Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam- a Translation

Kalam, Kamal or Kamaal
A final day will come to all
In spite of this
it is heaven, param or janath
that decides the day
variably they may say,
he gains glory
by his path
on this earth.
pompous! who are searching
permanency in this unstable world, just I realized
tell you one thing
Kalam saheb never crowned
his glory, but
wore it as his shoes
on his foot
On this day! Kalam saheb
I salute!!!
-- Kamal Haasan

X Standard Memory Poems

The  School Education Department has given a musical cd which contains  the memory poems. This  cd has been given to every school of the Tamil Nadu State.

The Text of the first memory poem.

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

The other songs are Migrant Bird by Famida Y Basheer and The Cry of the Children composed by
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
